Event description and character
Transylvania Trail is a bikepacking event owned and organized by Rotas Digital S.R.L., a private legal entity established in Romania (hereinafter the “Organizer”).
Transylvania Trail is NOT a race or an organized sports event. It is a self-supported bikepacking adventure that takes place on public roads, secondary and gravel roads, forest tracks, and cycling trails in the Transylvania region, Romania.
Transylvania Trail is NOT an organized event in the traditional sense. There is no timing, no classification, no podium, and no competitive elements. Participants ride at their own pace, according to their own schedule, and are entirely responsible for their own journey and safety.
Transylvania Trail is a recreational ride, and participation is voluntary. It is best understood as a gathering of cycling and cycle touring enthusiasts, each on a personal trip.
Briefing (attendance optional): on the evening of June 24, 2027, a briefing session is planned. Package pickup is also possible then, but not mandatory.
Check-in and package pickup: the morning of June 25, 2027, from 8:00 to 11:00.
Start: June 25, 2027, after check-in. Participants leave in groups once they are ready. There is no collective start with all participants.
Location (preliminary): the Sub Arini Park area, central Sibiu. The exact start and finish location will be communicated to registered participants.
The organizers will stay at the finish location from June 27 to June 30. Arriving after the event ends is not a problem, but you won’t find anyone from our team, and you won’t be able to collect the free beer and other amenities.
The routes: the full route, approximately 530 km with 6,000 meters of elevation gain, and the short route, approximately 350 km with 3,200 meters.

All participants must sign a Self-Responsibility Declaration at check-in, together with an official ID.
By signing this declaration, they confirm that:
- They are medically fit to participate in multi-day endurance cycling activities.
- They understand the nature of the event and the difficulty of the route (gravel roads, narrow trails, hills and elevation gain, remote areas, steep sections, variable weather, domestic and wild animals, road traffic).
- They assume full responsibility for their own safety.
- To the extent permitted by law, they will not hold the Organizer liable for any incident, accident, injury, health issue, theft or loss, or any other harm that may occur during or after the event.
- They have read, understood, and will comply with the event rules and applicable Romanian legislation.
Route and navigation
The Organizer provides an official route in .gpx format.
The route crosses public roads, gravel and forest roads, narrow trails, and steep sections. The entire route is open to regular traffic, and participants must share the road with other users, vehicles, and animals.
There are no signs, markings, or course marshals along the route. The .gpx track is the only official reference for navigation.
Participants must have a dedicated GPS device or smartphone with GPS navigation capability to follow the route.
The Organizer reserves the right to modify the route at any time, before or during the event, for safety, legal, or logistical reasons. The .gpx track will be updated accordingly and sent to participants by email.
Participants are free to deviate from the provided route for safety reasons (road works, dangerous conditions, closed sections) and must rejoin the route as soon as it is safe to do so.
Self-supported nature (unsupported)
Transylvania Trail is a self-supported event (unsupported). Participants must be autonomous in all aspects of their journey:
- Navigation: Use your own GPS device and orientation and map-reading skills.
- Food and water: Source your own supplies from shops, restaurants, or water sources along the route.
- Accommodation: Book your own accommodation (hotels, guesthouses, camping, bivouacking).
- Technical support: Carry your own tools and spare parts; perform your own repairs.
- Medical assistance: There is no medical team or first-aid service provided by the organizer.

For safety and navigation, each participant must carry the following equipment for the entire duration of the journey:
- Certified bicycle helmet (must be worn while riding).

- Respect for other trail users: Share roads and trails with hikers, horse riders, vehicles, and animals.

- Ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Damage trails, vegetation, public or private property.
- Disturb wildlife or livestock.
No assistance
There is no medical service, first-aid team, or medical assistance provided by the organizer along the route.
There is no rescue service or search obligation. If you withdraw from the event or encounter an emergency, you are responsible for arranging your own transport, medical care, or rescue.
Participants are considered regular cyclists on a personal journey, with no additional rights or privileges beyond those of any other road user.
Insurance and liability
The Organizer does not provide insurance coverage for participants. Each participant is responsible for arranging their own insurance, health insurance, or third-party liability insurance to cover cycling activities in Romania.
To the extent permitted by law, the Organizer and its collaborators are not liable for any accidents, injuries, theft, loss of property, illness, or any other damage that may occur to participants before, during, or after the ride, or as a result of participation.
Nothing in these Rules excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under Romanian law, such as liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or for harm to a person’s life, body or health.
Participants assume all risks associated with participation, including but not limited to: accidents, falls, collisions, mechanical failures, getting lost, adverse weather conditions, encounters with domestic or wild animals, theft, illness, or fatigue.
Privacy and image rights
Participants agree that photos and videos taken during the event may be used by the Organizer (Transylvania Trail) to present and promote the event, on the website, social media, print materials and video, free of charge.
Participants can ask at any time for a photo or video of them to be removed from our channels by writing to info@transylvaniatrail.com.
Personal data processing is governed by the Privacy Policy available on the website, in accordance with GDPR and Romanian data protection legislation.
Event cancellation or modification
The Organizer reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or modify the route or schedule at any time due to force majeure (natural disasters, pandemic, war, government intervention, extreme weather, or other causes beyond the Organizer’s control).
If the route is modified due to weather or safety conditions after the event has begun, no refunds will be offered.
Refunds and transfers
Cancellation within 14 days:
- Participants can cancel their registration within 14 calendar days from the date of registration, and no later than 30 days before the event start date. To cancel, participants email info@transylvaniatrail.com with their decision. The Organizer refunds 100% of the registration fee to the payment method used for registration, within 14 days of receiving the notice. This option is offered voluntarily; the legal right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure events on a set date (OUG 34/2014, art. 16 l).
Participant-initiated withdrawal after 14 calendar days:
- More than 30 days before the event start date: Refund of 50% of the registration fee to the payment method used for registration, upon written request sent to info@transylvaniatrail.com.
- Less than 30 days before the event start date: No refund.
Transfer of registration: Participants who cannot attend may transfer their registration to another person who meets all eligibility requirements, without refund of the fee, provided they notify the organizer in writing at least 30 days before the event start date at info@transylvaniatrail.com, providing complete details of the person to whom the registration is being transferred. The new participant has the obligation to inform themselves regarding the conditions of participation mentioned in these Rules and in the Terms of Use, which will apply to them accordingly.
Event cancellation by organizer: In the event of cancellation due to force majeure (natural disaster, pandemic, war, government intervention, or similar causes beyond the Organizer’s control), and if the event cannot be rescheduled within the same calendar year, each participant can choose either a free transfer of their registration to the following year’s edition, or a refund of the registration fee minus the costs already paid for their registration (such as the rider kit, jersey and live tracking). The Organizer lists these costs in the cancellation email.
Event postponement or route modification: If the event date or route must be changed due to circumstances beyond the Organizer’s control, participants’ registrations will remain valid for the rescheduled event without additional cost. Participants who cannot attend the new date can choose one of the options above for a cancellation.

By registering for Transylvania Trail 2027, participants confirm that they have read, understood, and agree to comply with these Rules, the Terms of Use and all applicable Romanian laws, and that they have read the Privacy Policy. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from the event without refund of the fee.

- The participant does not meet the eligibility requirements.
- The participant does not provide the necessary documentation (self-responsibility declaration, proof of payment).
